Cricket ties with Pakistan being handled by MEA: Bharti
2 February 2001

Indian Sports Minister Uma Bharti said in Madurai she had forwarded the request of the Board of Control for Cricket in India to revive cricketing ties with Pakistan to the External Affairs Ministry which was handling the issue.

Bharti told reporters that her ministry had no role to play in the matter now as it had become a 'bilateral issue'.

The minister said she had consultations with Law Ministry officials on Wednesday to discuss the action to be taken against cricketers found guilty by the CBI and the BCCI's internal inquiry in the match-fixing scandal.

"We are working on the action to be taken against those found guilty of match-fixing, including withdrawal of awards," she said.
