The heavy rains that have fallen in Sri Lanka during the last few days ensured that little play was possible in the Premier League Tournament. No play at all was possible in the keenly anticipated clash between Bloomfield and CCC, the Southern Province encounter between Matara and Galle was postponed, and five games started late.
However, Burgher Recreation Club, who pulled off an unexpected victory over Bloomfield last week, enjoyed an uninterrupted day and made maximum use of it against Police Sports Club. At the close of the play they were 338 for five thanks to Malintha Warnapura's 111 from 178 balls and Chintaka Jayasinghe's undefeated 99 from 170 balls.
Sinhalese Sports Club took on the Sri Lanka Navy at Maitland Place without Arjuna Ranatunga. Having been asked to bat by their opponents they finished on 187 for 4 having been reduced to 73 for four at one stage. Hemantha Wickramaratne (73*) and Tilan Samaraweera (51*) rescued the innings with an undefeated 114 run partnership.
Singha Sports Club have made a solid start in their game with Moors Sports Club. Having been put into bat they compiled 190 for three from the 58 overs of play that were possible today. Wicket keeper, Buddhika Ekanayake scored 69 and Saman Jayantha made a fluent 66 from 88 deliveries. Rangana Herath had an unusually quiet day, finishing with just one wicket from his 18 overs.
Nondescripts Cricket Club won the toss against Panadura Sports Club. In what could be an important game Pandura had scored 135 for three wickets by the close. Dilruwan Perera batted throughout the day for his 82, which came from 136 deliveries and included nine boundaries.
