When Gauteng spinner Neil Fusedale took the tenth Griquas wicket with the last ball of the day, it brought to an end three sessions of torment for the visiting bowlers. Fusedale finished with five wickets - at the cost of 170 runs - as Griquas were dismissed for 406, a first innings lead of 56 with just a day remaining in this Supersport Series Shield match.

Kimberley has become something of a no-go zone for bowlers this season, and this match has proved no different. After the likes of Sven Koenig (155) and Nic Pothas (83) made merry on day one, on Saturday it was the turn of Martyn Gidley with a career-best 151 and Pieter Koortzen (102) to enjoy a chance to flay the attack.

Koortzen was out shortly after reaching his second hundred of the season, as Gauteng used no less than eight different bowlers in an increasingly desperate attempt to stem the tide.

Unless Gauteng manufacture a spectacular collapse on the final day, the odds must be that the two captains will shake hands on a draw some time on Sunday afternoon. To lose one's wicket at Kimberley might be an error of judgement, to lose all ten in a matter of hours might justly be described as careless.
