Auckland women ensure final berth while Otago gain first win

Otago gained its first win of the State Insurance Cup today while Auckland assured itself of a final against Canterbury on Saturday.

Playing in Dunedin, Northern Districts scored only 107 before being dismissed in the 48th over.

Katherine Spence scored 36 for ND while Anna Wilkins scored 24 and Jody Antonovich 16. Clare Taylor bowled nine overs for Otago and took three for 14 while Rachel Pullar took two for 27 from her nine overs.

Otago made no race of their bid to record their first win and lost five wickets before reaching their goal in the 33rd over. Rowan Milburn scored 27 not out and Megan Kane 34.

Haylee Partidge took three for 15 from her 10 overs while Jenny Stafford took two for 28 from five.

Auckland produced one of the better batting performances of the season to reach 288/5 at the end of 50 overs against Central Districts at Melville Park in Auckland.

Emily Drumm top scored with 118 runs while Shelly Fruin scored 73. Support came from Rebecca Rolls 25, Kathryn Ramel 18 and Helen Watson 23. Kate Pulford was the best of the CD bowlers.

In reply CD could only manage 192/9 with Megan Graham scoring 30. Helen Watson took two for 23 and Munokoa Tunupopo took two for 40.

Just where the State Insurance Cup final will be played will be determined by the run rates of Auckland and Canterbury which will be decided after tomorrow's last preliminary round games.
