Brett Lee discharged from hospital
Australian fast bowler Brett Lee was discharged from hospital today after undergoing surgery in Melbourne on Tuesday night.
The surgery involved repair of the medial ligament and flexor tendon damaged when throwing in the Carlton Series match against Zimbabwe in Perth on 4 February.
During the surgery, the opportunity was taken to correct a bony injury that Lee had sustained earlier in his career. He had previously fractured the ulna bone, which had never completely healed but not caused any pain. The bone was reattached with two screws and bone graft inserted to assist healing.
This injury may have made him more susceptible to damaging the ligament.
Lee said: "The surgeon, Greg Hoy, was really happy with the way things went and I expect to make a full recovery. I won't be rushing things, though. It's important not to push things along too quickly.
"The arm is sore at the moment but it's getting better every day. I'm just happy it's all over.
"I knew I was in good hands with Greg Hoy, as he operated on Shane Warne's finger and also conducted his shoulder surgery."
Lee will spend the next four weeks in a brace before commencing more intensive physiotherapy.
It is possible that he will begin bowling in 10-12 weeks, but this will depend on his progress in the first stage of recovery.
