Solanki waits anxiously for X-ray results
Staff and agencies - 10 February 2001

England A all-rounder Vikram Solanki is anxiously awaiting results of an X-ray on his hand which will decide whether his tour of the West Indies is over.

He was injured while fielding during the opening day's play of the Busta Cup match against the Windward Islands in St Lucia.

His finger was gashed as he tried to stop the ball and he left the field immediately holding his left hand and in obvious pain.

"It did not look too good but we are just waiting to find out the news," said manager James Whitaker. "It was badly gashed but it is too early to say if it is broken. If it is, he will have to go home."

If Solanki does have to return, it would mean another blow for the tourists following the departure of batsmen Aftab Habib this week and David Sales earlier in the tour, both because of injuries.

England A this week called up Warwickshire's Ian Bell, fresh from skippering the Under-19s in India, to replace Habib. Michael Powell was flown in to replace Sales.

Solanki is the tourists' fourth highest scorer with 214 runs so far in the Busta Cup and has taken a remarkable 20 catches in the slips.
