Indian, Australian stars to play in Chennai fundraiser
11 February 2001

Ian Chappell, Allan Border, Richie Benaud and Sunil Gavaskar will be among a host of cricket stars from Australia and India who will be seen in action at a charity match in Chennai to raise funds for the earthquake victims of Gujarat.

"The charity match will be played on March 23 in Chennai after the last match of the Australia-India Test series," president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India AC Muthiah told PTI in Sydney on Sunday.

"As most countries are playing somewhere or the other, it will not be possible to conduct a four-nation charity competition. So we will invite past legends and present heroes from India and Australia to participate in the charity match," the Board chief said.

From the Australian side, Ian Chappell, Allan Border and Richie Benaud will be participating in the fundraiser. The Indian side will include Gavaskar for sure along with other big names of the past, Muthiah, here for the International Cricket Council Executive Board meeting, said.
