Bulls set for twin cup challenges
Queensland Cricket - 12 February 2001

Australian One Day player Andrew Symonds will make a timely return for the XXXX Queensland Bulls when they take on the Western Warriors in a Cup double-header at the Gabba this week.

Symonds was today named in the Bulls team for Friday's Mercantile Mutual Cup clash with the Warriors and the Pura Cup side for the match against WA at the Gabba from Sunday.

The return of Symonds, who played nine matches for Australia in the Carlton Series, will help the Bulls adjust to the loss of opening batsman Matthew Hayden and pace spearhead Michael Kasprowicz, who depart on Tuesday with the Australian team for the tour of India.

The Queensland selectors have named batsman Martin Love (hamstring) and pace bowler Adam Dale (chicken pox) for both matches, despite the pair missing the past two Mercantile Mutual Cup matches.

Opener Jerry Cassell returns to replace Hayden at the top of the order for the Pura Cup match, having scored his maiden first class century in Queensland's last match last month.

The Bulls will attend the Telstra Corporate luncheon tomorrow at the Sheraton Hotel from 12.30pm and at this stage, will train at the Gabba on Wednesday and Thursday morning this week. The arrival of the Western Warriors and their training details will be circulated once they are confirmed.

The Bulls will chase the highest cash prize in domestic cricket on Friday night with the Mercantile Mutual Hit The Sign jackpot now at $250,000, the maximum it will reach this summer.

With Queensland out of the running for the Final, and WA already confirmed as the host of the Final for the second year in a row, the prospect of collecting a quarter of million dollars is set to prove irresistible for the players.
