Noble gestures by Australian team
Staff Reporter - 15 February 2001

Not long after their arrival in Mumbai, the Australian team addressed the media at Hotel Orchid. But before that, they had two important chores to attend to.

First, the Australian captain Steve Waugh donated a cheque of 165,000 Dollars (Aus) (approx. Rs 42 lakhs) to the CEO of World Vision John Mathai towards the relief fund for the earthquake victims in Gujarat.

After this, the Australian wicketkeeper and vice-captain Adam Gilchrist displayed an autographed cricket bat signed by the touring Indian team in Australia in 1999-00 and the Australian team which is being auctioned and can be bidded on the Australian Cricket Board website baggygreen.com.
