David Kelly disappointed no-one with any leanings towards Central Districts when rewriting the record books in his side's Shell Trophy game with Canterbury in Blenheim today.

Kelly, who started the day unbeaten on 138, batted right throught his team's innings to be 212 no and creat all sorts of records.

(1) The highest first class score at Horton Park.

(2) The second highest score by a Central Districts batsman in first-class cricket since Martin Crowe's 242 against Otago in 1989/90.

(3)The highest score by a Central Districts batsman to carry his bat through an innings, passing the 90 not out scored by John Smith for Central Districts v Northern Districts at Rotorua in 1989/90.

Central Districts were dismissed for 538 and at the conclusion of play on day three Canterbury in their second innings were 157/4.

CD coach Dipak Patel told CricInfo that it was great to see a young batsman bat on with such a good technique. Of current New Zealand players it seemed that only Mark Richardson had that ability.

Based in Christchurch,attending Lincoln University, Kelly plays his cricket in Hawke's Bay and this double century would provide him with valuable experience for his future career.

Canterbury began batting in their second innings 270 runs behind Central Districts and, apart from losing an early wicket, batted very sensibly with Jarrod Englefield and Michael Papps both providing problems for the Central Districts attack.

But, they both were dismissed in the space of three balls and both leg before wicket. Englefield had scored 90 and had come so close to getting his second hundred of the match while Papps finished on 41.

The remainder of the Canterbury batting will have to occupy the crease for a long time if they are to save this match or to make Central Districts bat again for at stumps they were 157/4 and still 113 runs behind Central Districts.
