England name 12 for Test
CricInfo - 20 February 2001

England have kept their options open by naming a 12 man squad for the First Test against Sri Lanka starting on Thursday.

Michael Vaughan and Graeme Hick are both included alongside the two spinners, Giles and Croft. The selectors will now have to decide whether to play both batsman, who can also contribute with their part time off-spin, or play both specialist spinners and leave out one of the batsmen. They are expected to stick with their successful opening attack of Caddick and Gough, stretching their record of the most consecutive appearances by an opening pair for England.

Team (from): N Hussain (Essex, Capt.), M Atherton (Lancashire), M Trescothick (Somerset), G Thorpe (Surrey), A Stewart (Surrey, wkt), M Vaughan (Yorkshire), G Hick (Worcestershire), C White (Yorkshire), A Giles (Warwickshire), R Croft (Glamorgan), A Caddick (Somerset), D Gough (Yorkshire).
