Oram back in, Adams retained, Martin excused
Lynn McConnell - 22 February 2001

It's a game late but the New Zealand selectors have realised the potential value that Aucklander Andre Adams offers the side in its bid to win the next two matches in the National Bank One-Day International series with Pakistan.

Despite the return from injury of Palmerston North all rounder Jacob Oram, Adams has been retained in the 12-man squad named today while Chris Martin has been excluded.

The length of New Zealand's tail was sorely exposed by Pakistan in yesterday's 28-run loss in Wellington while the bowling at the death was again punished as 51 runs were added in the last five overs by Pakistan. That proved the difference between the two sides.

Selection chairman Sir Richard Hadlee said: "Andre is a genuine allrounder and his inclusion strengthens our batting line-up without compromising our bowling options."

Martin has been asked to focus his preparation now on the Test series starting in two weeks in Auckland. As one of the big developers on the scene this summer Martin has a key role to play in the Test series.

The squad has been named for the Christchurch match, on Sunday, only.

The full squad is: Stephen Fleming (captain), Nathan Astle, Roger Twose, Craig McMillan, Jacob Oram, Lou Vincent, Chris Harris, Andrew Adams, Adam Parore, Daniel Vettori, James Franklin, Darryl Tuffey.
