THE DON
Sir Donald Bradman Tribute
His last interview hosted by Ray Martin
Tonight at 8.30pm on Channel Nine

The Nine Network will pay tribute to Sir Donald Bradman tonight at 8.30pm with the one-hour special, THE DON.

Sir Donald, who passed away yesterday at his Adelaide home aged 92, spoke with Ray Martin in 1996 in his last recorded media interview where he talked candidly about life and the game that made him such a legend.

THE DON revisits this special interview and features footage of 'The Don' and his wife Lady Jessie, who passed away in 1997, in their garden in Adelaide.

They talk intimately about Sir Donald's marriage proposal and Lady Jessie's suggestion that he goes on the 1930 tour to England to think about it.

The Boy from Bowral, who grew up to conquer the international cricket arena and the hearts of all Australians, also reflects on his triumphs, his life and his beloved game of cricket.

Sir Donald talks about the 1948 Invincibles tour of England when at age 40 he left his family and failing business to play for Australia, feeling he had a sense of duty to reassure people after World War II.

He tells Ray Martin that he would like to be remembered as a man of integrity.

Ray Martin says in his introduction: "I have done over 12,000 interviews. This one was an absolute privilege."

THE DON will air tonight at 8.30pm on the Nine Network and will be followed by Who Wants to Be A Millionaire at 9.30pm, Nightline at 10.30pm and the final installment of A Girl Thing at 11.00pm.
