Sri Lankan players fined by Match Referee
ICC Match Referee Media Release - 26 February 2001

A special hearing was conducted by the ICC Match Referee Mr. H. Singh in the presence of: Mr. Anura Tennakoon – Acting Chief Executive of the BCCSL, Mr. AV Jayaprakash – Umpire, Mr. Peter Manuel – Umpire, Air Commodore Ajith Jayasekara – Manager Sri Lanka team, Mr. Sanath Jayasuriya – Captain Sri Lanka, Mr. M Muralitharan, Mr. M Jayawardene, Mr. R Arnold, Mr. K Sangakkara.

With regard to unnecessary appealing and the running towards the umpire in jubilation before the umpires decisions is given which is in contraventions of the sprit of the game is a breach of code 1 and 2 of the ICC code of conduct.

Not being fully satisfied or convinced by the explanations put forward by the players in the matter, I have decided to fine the following players 25% of their match fee: Mr. M Muralitharan, Mr. M Jayawardene, Mr. R Arnold, Mr. K Sangakkara, and have issued a warning to the captain of the Sri Lankan team – Sanath Jayasuriya.
