Dutch women to visit Pakistan in April for seven ODI’s
Mahmood Ahmad - 28 February 2001

The docile women cricket in Pakistan is about to get a real boost when the women cricketers from Holland arrive in the port city of Karachi on the 6th of April 2001. The Pakistan women's team, led by the seasoned Shaiza Khan, would face the Dutch visitors in seven one-day internationals, all of which will be played at the National Stadium, Karachi.

The Dutch team will play the first match of the series on the very next day of their arrival, i.e. 7th April. In all, the visitors will play seven matches during the series, which ends on the 21st of April. Apart from the first match, the last encounter between the two teams will also be a day-night affair.

Shaiza Khan, the captain of Pakistan team, is also the president of the Pakistan Women's Cricket Control Association (PWCCA) and boasts of a huge playing experience behind her back. Besides taking part in the last women's World Cup played in India in 1997, she has the honour of being a part of the first Women Eleven to play for MCC after 212 years. The deputy in the team is her sister Sharmeen Khan. These two sisters have served the cause of women's cricket in Pakistan for a long time.

Apart from these two experienced campaigners, Pakistan team boasts of the presence of players like the slow right arm bowler, Kiran Baluch and the middle order bat, Deebah Farah Sherazi.

It is hoped that this series would go a long way in promoting the cause of women cricketers in Pakistan. Moreover, cricket fans; belonging to both genders, all over the country will have an enjoyable time when the two strong teams lock their horns in these matches.
