Jayasuriya defends his team
CricInfo - 28 February 2001

Sanath Jayasuriya has defended his Sri Lankan side against accusations of unnecessary appealing.

The Sri Lankan captain, who was warned by the match referee after the game as to his future conduct, and saw four of his team fined 25% of their match fee, explained that excitement among fielders, especially on turning wickets where the spin bowlers are always likely to take wickets, is inevitable.

"The players are human beings and they are used to appealing. In these conditions where the ball is always turning and keeping low, we tend to be appealing all the time," he said.
