Rajneesh Gupta - 7 January 2001

  • It was the 1663rd ODI match in cricket history.

  • It was the 435th floodlit match in One-day internationals.

  • It was New Zealand's 363rd and Zimbabwe's 171st ODI match.

  • It was the 23rd match between the two sides. The record now reads: Zimbabwe 6, New Zealand 15, tied one and abandoned one.

  • It was the 149th match on New Zealand soil and 10th between these two.

  • Chris Martin and James Franklin made their ODI debut. They became the 118th and 119th players to represent New Zealand in the shorter version of the game.

  • Umpires David Quested and Evan Watkin officiated in their 26th and 17th match respectively.

  • Andy Flower (80) made his 40th fifty (excluding hundreds). He became the first Zimbabwean and 15th batsman to do so. The record is held by India's Mohammad Azharuddin who had a tally of 58 fifties from 334 matches.

  • The fifty was Flower's ninth in day-night matches- the most by any wicket keeper in such matches. Flower moved ahead of Sri Lankan Romesh Kaluwitharana who has 8 fifties in 55 floodlit matches.

  • The third wicket partnership of 154 runs between Stuart Carlisle and Andy Flower is Zimbabwe's alltime best for this wicket in ODIs. This obliterates the previous record stand of 144 between Flower brothers against Sri Lanka at Colombo SSC on 26-01-1998. Incidentally the previous highest third wicket partnership for Zimbabwe against New Zealand was paltry 78 recorded on two occasions- between Campbell and Andy Flower at Bulawayo on 01-10-2000 and between Campbell and Murray Goodwin at Christchurch on 04-03-1998.

  • The partnership was also the highest for Zimbabwe for any wicket in all floodlit matches. This obliterates the unbeaten 153 run stand for the fifth wicket between Andy Flower and Dirk Viljoen against Sri Lanka at Sharjah on 02-10-2000.

  • Zimbabwe (300-7) made a total of 300 or more for the fifth time in ODIs. The total was also its highest against New Zealand beating 273 for five at Bulawayo on 30-09-1998.

  • Debutant Martin's figures of 7-0-53-0 (@ 7.57) was the second most expensive by a New Zealand debutant in ODIs. The worst figures still remains with medium pacer Chris Drum who had figures of 6-0-46-0 (@ 7.66) on debut against India at Wellington on 14-01-1999.

  • Stephen Fleming on 4, completed 2000 runs in his 80th match as New Zealand's skipper. Fleming became the first New Zealander and 11th player in ODI history to aggregate 2000 runs in a career as skipper. The record is held by Arjuna Ranatunga who has a career aggregate of 5608 runs in 193 matches as Sri Lanka's skipper.

  • Heath Streak has now taken 33 wickets in 32 floodlit matches- maximum by any Zimbabwean. He surged ahead of Paul Strang who has a tally of 31 wickets from 24 matches.

  • The victory by 70 runs was Zimbabwe's largest ever against New Zealand . The previous largest margin of win for Zimbabwe against New Zealand was by 21 runs on two occasions - at Napier on 03-02-1996 and at Bulawayo on 30-09-2000.
