Dawn Selectors replaced but Bari retained
8 January 2001

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sacked its selectors while retaining the chairman Wasim Bari in a mindboggling decision.

Ehteshamuddin and Iqbal Qasim where shown the door, probably for the Test series loss against England. But if that was the reason, the chief selector is equally to be blamed for the defeat.

In fact it is the chief selector who is the final authority as far as selectorial policies are concerned.

Iqbal Qasim has been appointed as development officer and will sit in Lahore. But the future assignment of Ehtesham, if any, is unknown.

The two have been replaced by former batsman and veteran of six Tests Shafiq Ahmad and former pacer Sikander Bakht who represented Pakistan in 26 Tests. Both have served as selectors in the past.

The selectors have been initially given the task to pick the Pakistan team for the twin tours of New Zealand and Sharjah.
