PCB Advisory Council decisions
Pakistan Cricket Board - 8 January 2001

The meeting of the Advisory Council under the chairmanship of Lieutenant General Tauqir Zia, Chairman PCB continued today (Saturday 6th January 2001) here at the PCB Headquarters. The following decisions were made:

The formation of junior selection committee of the PCB was finalized. Mr. Haroon Rashid, the former Pakistan Test Cricketer was appointed as the chairman while the following were announced as members:

1. Mr. Farrukh Zaman (former Test Cricketer)
2. Mr. Sultan Rana (former First Class Cricketer)
3. Mr. Shoaib Muhammad (former Test Cricketer) (Subject to his confirmation)

Besides appointing Mr. Fakir Aizazuddin as the Manager of the Pakistan team Dr. Riaz Ahmad and Javed Miandad were retained as Team doctor/physiotherapist and coach respectively.

Doctors panel was also formulated that will be headed by Dr. Meesaq Rizvi (Shapes). The panel includes: Dr. Tauseef Razzaq, Dr. Mustatab while Dr. Riaz Ahmad will assist them on team matters. This panel will ensure making a physical preparation and diet plan for the probables. Plan will be put into operation after the approval by the Chairman.

Implementation of the recommendations made by Justice Muhammad Quyyum in his report for Betting Gambling and Match Fixing were discussed.

Detailed presentation on the role & task of Cricket Analyst was presented by Dr. Nauman Niaz. The Advisory Council decided to invest into the aspect of cricket analysis in depth.

The Manager Real Estate made detailed presentation on The Management of cricket board's property.

It was decided in principle and with absolute consensus that Geoffery Boycott, the former England Test Cricketer will arrive in Pakistan in the first week of February to attend to a coaching job for the raw talent. His schedule and other details would be disclosed in the due course of time.

It was reiterated that Advisory Council will advise the chairman on matters placed before it, decisions would be implemented by the PCB Secretariat through the Director PCB and management. This was to clarify the dichotomy in the role of the Advisory Council.

Iqbal Qasim, former Pakistan left-arm leg spinner will be the new Manager Cricket Development and he will be coming on secondment from National Bank of Pakistan after the formalities are complete. He will be reporting to the Director PCB. National Bank is requested for his release.

PCB decided to seek maximum sponsorship for all works to be undertaken by the organization so as to tap the great marketability of cricket. Marketing structure of the PCB was reviewed in detail and will be finalized later in the month.

To economize the expenditures, boarding and lodging of the employees on extra-city tours was also reviewed and appropriate steps in this regard were taken.

A detailed presentation was made on evolving PCB's own web site. The possibilities were discussed at length and the experts were given instructions to look for options to make this feasible.

Advisory Council reached a consensus about opening three cricket academies simultaneously at Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi. The National Cricket Academy will be set up at Lahore. These will start functioning from 20th January 2001. The selection committee has already been asked to submit the names of the players.

It was also decided in principle to change the chairs installed in the NSK and GSL. The spade work in being done.

Imtiaz Ahmad, former Pakistan Test Captain is opening a cricket nursery at Model Town Lahore. PCB has helped in acquisition of land and it was also decided to extend monetary help besides giving him the essential equipment.

ACC U-17 cricket tournament is being held at Dhaka, Bangladesh from 10th to 26th February 2001. Trials to chose the team are being held in eight different cities starting from 11th January 2001. Final trials would be held at Lahore on January 16th 2001.
