3rd ODI, New Zealand v Zimbabwe, Statistical Highlights

  • It was the 1665th ODI in cricket history.
  • It was New Zealand's 365th and Zimbabwe's 173rd ODI.
  • It was the 25th match between the two sides. The record now reads: New Zealand 16, Zimbabwe 7, abandoned one and tied one.
  • Umpires Billy Bowden and Doug Cowie were officiating in their 15th and 52nd match respectively.
  • Adam Parore was getting run-out for the 17th time in his career- a record for New Zealand. Interestingly Parore has also been dismissed in this fashion on eight occasions in Test cricket as well- another record for New Zealand.
  • The eighth wicket partnership of 58 between Craig McMillan and Scott Styris was New Zealand's best for this wicket against Zimbabwe. This obliterates the previous best of 46 between Chris Harris and Dion Nash also at Auckland on 08-03-1998.
  • The sixth wicket partnership of 82 between Andy Flower and Dirk Viljoen was the highest for Zimbabwe for this wicket against New Zealand beating the 66 run-partnership between Stuart Carlisle and SG Davies at Napier in 1995-96 and between Dirk Viljoen and Guy Whittall at Wellington on 06-02-1998.
  • The partnership is also the second best for sixth wicket for Zimbabwe in all matches after the 103 run partnership between Dave Houghton and Kevin Curran against Australia at Southampton on 16-06-1983.
  • Heath Streak's innings (79*) is the highest by any batsman in ODIs at number eight. Pakistan's Wasim Akram had also made 79 against Sri Lanka at Visakhapatnam on 27-03-1999. Incidentally the previous highest for Zimbabwe in a ODI at number eight was 59 also by Streak against India at Sharjah on 08-11-1998.

  • Streak has now quietly moved to second place among the most prolific run-scorers at number eight in ODIs. His tally at the end of this match stands as 660 runs in 40 matches. Only Pakistan's Wasim Akram (1060 runs in 105 matches) exceeds Streak's aggregate.
  • Zimbabwe was winning a bilateral series for only fourth time in 24 series.The other series wins are v England (3-0) in 1996-97 , v India (1-0) in 1996-97 and v New Zealand (2-1) in 2000-01.
  • Zimbabwe registered a one-wicket win for the second time. Interestingly Zimbabwe's last two wins have been one wicket wins ! The previous such occasion was against India at Jodhpur on 08-12-2000. Overall it was 20th instance of one wicket wins in ODIs.
  • Zimbabwe's total (274-9) is the third joint highest for a side winning a match by one wicket after Sri Lanka's 303 against England at Adelaide on 23-01-1999 and Zimbabwe's 284 against India at Jodhpur on 08-12-2000 and along with Pakistan's 274 against Australia at Perth in 02-01-1987.
  • Heath Streak won Man of the Match award for the fourth time in his career.
