The Barbados Nation WI Domestic: Rating the Barbados team
Haydn Gill - 10 January 2001

The author rates the performance of the Barbados players in their opening Busta match against Guyana at Kensington Oval which ended on Monday (maximum rating is 10):

Adrian Griffith (8): It was refreshing to see him bat so positively in both innings; spoiled it somewhat by gifting his wicket on both occasions.

Philo Wallace (6.5): Got starts in both innings, but needs to carry on if he is to press for a recall to the West Indies team.

Sean Armstrong (6): Showed fighting sprit after an uncertain start. Also gifted his wicket in the first innings.

Floyd Reifer (4): Failed in both innings, but might have been the victim of a contentious decision. Also missed a slip chance which he would have taken nine of ten times.

Ryan Hinds (8): Batted with a fair degree of responsibility for his half-century in the first innings. His left-arm spin also earned him the wickets of two top-order batsmen.

Roland Holder (10): Did not suggest he was a player who had little match practice in the last three months and expertly used the benefit of his experience to compile a century. Ian Bradshaw (6.5): As new captain, he did a commendable job. Also chipped in with some runs in the middle-order but his bowling, if steady, lacked penetration.

Hendy Bryan (6): Bowled well at times, but was too inconsistent. On another day, he would have taken the skied chances he missed when Carl Hooper was in the 90s. As usual, he made quick runs in the lower order.

Dave Marshall (5): His leg-breaks hardly troubled the batsmen. A lion-hearted competitor, he is almost certain to perform much better next time around.

Corey Glasgow (7): The debutant wicket-keeper was generally tidy behind the stumps in spite of the difficult diving chance he put down that gave Hooper a life at 59 of his eventual 159.

Corey Collymore (10): Bowled splendidly throughout. Often ran in at the batsmen and bowled with aggression. Showed that he might be back to full fitness and was fully deserving of a six-wicket haul on a placid pitch.
