The Barbados Nation WI Domestic: Jamaicans expect tough battle at Oval
11 January 2001

The Jamacians are here.

And they are ready for a big battle in the second-round of the 2001 Busta Cup at the mecca of regional cricket. The visitors, cock-a-hoop after coming from behind to beat the Windward Islands in the first round, meet Barbados at Kensington Oval from tomorrow.

The game is extremely important for Barbados, who accomplished a big total on a superb batting wicket, but lost first innings points to Guyana despite making piling up 422 in their first innings.

Jamaican captain Robert Samuels, however, is not taking the Barbadians lightly. "Barbados's record over the years has shown they are one of the toughest teams in the regional tournament. We are looking forward for a very good game," he said on the team's arrival at the Grantley Adams International Airport last night.

Discarded West Indies pacer Franklyn Rose said he was looking forward to an exciting match. "I always enjoy playing in Barbados and picking up wickets, although it (Kensington) is a flat wicket nowadays," he said.

The squad:

Robert Samuels (captain), Nehemiah Perry (vice-captain), Leon Garrick, Chris Gayle, Brenton Parchment, Wayne Cuff, Gareth Breese, Keith Hibbert, Franklyn Rose, Denville McKenzie, Ryan Cunningham, Darren Powell and Audley Sanson.
