Eaglesvale High School, 2000
D Sithole - 12 January 2001

Coach: Stephen Mangongo
Played 12, Won 8, Lost 4. Success rate 66.6%

This was a good season for the Eaglesvale first team. Manie Conradie led a team with less individual flair; however `team approach' was the driving force behind the season's success.

Eaglesvale is among the top teams in the country. Early in the season Eaglesvale broke Lomagundi's winning streak by beating them by six wickets. Eaglesvale also accounted for the downfall of another cricketing powerhouse in St George's, whom they beat during the festival week and during the season.

It was befitting and pleasing to see that Piet Rinke had an outstanding season with both bat and ball. Piet Rinke has been the epitome of hard work this season. With a combative attitude, Piet finished the season with the team's highest batting average of 43. His bowling was penetrative and earned his side breakthroughs. Colin Irvine emerged the highest wicket-taker with 23 wickets in the season, as he utilized his height to extract bounce at a good pace.

Young players were groomed and they showed potential. Stephen Marillier and David Irvine settled well in the first eleven. Stephen, younger brother of Test player Doug, recorded the highest individual score of 161 against St George's; however he has to improve his application if he is to be consistent.

Four players from Eaglesvale were selected for Mashonaland Under-19. They were M Conradie, P Rinke, D de Beer and S Marillier. S Marillier and D Irvine represented Zimbabwe Under-16 at the Costcutter World Cup held in the UK in July.
