Close on the heels of the arrest of NRI businessman and alleged bookmaker Sanjeev Chawla, Delhi police would be soon sending a team to London for a further probe into the match-fixing scandal.

In a dramatic development, Scotland Yard arrested 33-year-old Chawla from his house at Hendon in North London.

When contacted, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) KK Paul told PTI that they were awaiting an official communication from Interpol about the arrest of Chawla.

Paul said irrespective of his arrest, the city police were contemplating to send a two-member team to London to probe further into the match-fixing controversy.

Chawla was arrested following a Letter Rogatory issued by a city court on Delhi police's request. The papers were sent through proper channel to Scotland Yard for further action.

However, Paul did not specify as to when the team would leave for London but added "it would be now very soon".

Delhi police stumbled upon the match-fixing controversy in April last year when they recorded the telephonic conversation allegedly between Chawla and banned former South African captain Hansie Cronje.

City Police Commissioner Ajai Raj Sharma earlier this month told reporters that the police had "sought government's permission" for allowing the visit.
