England A omit skipper Alleyne and strike bowlers
Staff and agencies - 19 January 2001

A surprise team selection by England A saw skipper Mark Alleyne being left out for the team's third match of the Busta International Series against Guyana in Grenada.

Strike bowlers Alex Tudor and Chris Silverwood were also omitted, as were wicket-keeper Chris Read and Usman Afzaal, from the side led by vice-captain John Crawley.

Read was replaced behind the stumps by James Foster and in came seam bowlers Ryan Sidebottom and Jon Lewis and leg spinner Chris Schofield.

Warwickshire skipper Michael Powell, who was called up for the Caribbean tour after David Sales was sent home with a knee injury sustained during a game of beach volleyball, opened the batting with Ian Ward after Crawley had won the toss and elected to bat.

Guyana were captained by Carl Hooper who is rumoured to be lined up to replace Jimmy Adams as West Indies skipper.
