Bloomfield maintain pole position

Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club maintained their top of the table position in Group A of the Premier League Tournament with an emphatic innings win against Galle CC at Maitland Place today. Elsewhere there were outright victories for Moors Sports Club, Sinhalese Sports Club and Colts Cricket Club.

Bloomfield bowled out Galle Cricket Club for 151 in their second innings. Dissanayake was the pick of the bowlers, taking six wickets for 51 runs.

The performance of the day was by Tamil Union. They had begun the day 238 runs adrift of Sebastianites first innings score of 365. However, they batted throughout the day to secure a first innings victory. Although they eventually finished on 394, they looked be in trouble at the fall of the eighth wicket. Still needing 73 runs to secure a first innings victory, Brijesh Jeganathan (58) scored a timely half-century and added 77 runs with Dias (27) for the ninth wicket.

Moors Sport Club cruised to a comfortable victory over the Navy Sports Club after Rangana Herath claimed his second ten-wicket haul in two weeks. Moors declared on their overnight score of 191 and then bowled out the Navy for 116 in their second innings to win the match by 217 runs. Rangana Herath finished with six wickets for 32 runs in the innings and 11 for 78 in the match.

Sinhalese Sports Club mopped the Antonians Sports Club second innings with ease at Maitland Place. They bowled out Antonians for 218 and were then required to score just nine runs for victory.

Colts Cricket Club secured a welcome outright victory when they dismissed Kurunegala for 162 in their second innings. Liyange picked up five wickets and Eric Upashatha claimed another three. He now leaves for New Zealand. Colts were required to score 55 runs and did so for the loss of three wickets.

Nondescripts Cricket Club had to settle for a draw in their match against Singha CC. They did however secure a first innings victory and declared on 308 for five this morning. Hashan Tillakaratne continued his impressive form with an unbeaten 68. Singha CC finished the day on 265 for eight.

The game between Police Sports Club and the Air Force at Havelock Road was drawn.
