The Barbados Nation Brathwaite, Maynard out of Barbados squad
Philip Spooner - 26 January 2001

Fast bowler Dayne Maynard bowled with heart in the nets yesterday morning, but it was not enough to keep him in the Barbados cricket team.

Maynard, the 32-year-old pacer, has been cut from the team for the four-day Busta Cup match against England A starting tomorrow, at Kensington Oval.

Don't blame Maynard. Yesterday at Queen's Park the burly pacer ran in with vigour and hit the deck hard, often causing worry for the batsmen. He extracted movement and proved beyond doubt he is fit for the challenge. Maynard played in the last home game taking just one wicket, but was impressive last year when he was the leading fast bowler with 22 wickets. But the selectors simply could not accommodate four pacers in the 13-man squad, with the return of Roland Holder and Ryan Hinds, who both missed Barbados' last match against West Indies B in south Trinidad.

Also left out is allrounder Adrian Brathwaite, who went to Trinidad but did not play. The selectors now face the question of who to leave out for tomorrow's important assignment.

Slow bowlers Ryan Austin and Dave Marshall both looked dangerous in the nets as well and the selectors may be tempted to go in with both, with Hinds as a third option.

Full team: Ian Bradshaw (captain), Shawn Armstrong, Ryan Austin, Courtney Browne, Hendy Bryan, Shirley Clarke, Corey Collymore, Adrian Griffith, Ryan Hinds, Roland Holder, Dave Marshall, Floyd Reifer, Philo Wallace; Manager: Tony Howard, Coach: Hendy Springer.
