Canterbury and Central Districts take easy wins in women's games

Canterbury made short work of Otago in their first game of the weekend at the Village Green today.

Otago won the toss and batted first and was dismissed for 59 in 36.4 overs. It was a sign of how few runs there were for the batsmen when 22 wides were the top score. The best batting of the innings, if it could be called that, was Natalie Bannerman's. She scored six.

Haidee Tiffen took three wickets for eight runs off five overs. Nicola Payne took 2-12 off nine, Rebecca Steel, a 16-year-old in her debut game for the province, took 1-9 off 5.4, Maria Fahey 1-7 off 10 and Sarah Burke 1-10 off four.

Canterbury took only 18.5 overs to wrap the game up. Nicola Payne was 29 not out while Paula Flannery scored 18 as Canterbury lost only two wickets in reaching 61.

Wellington, batting first against Central Districts at Petone Recreation Ground, was all out for 128.

Anna Corbin's 27 not out was the best of the batsmen and Maia Lewis scored 22. Kate Pulford took 2-21 off 10 overs, Anna Burrows took 2-29 off 10, Melissa Murray took 2-19 off 7.3 overs and Aimee Mason had 1-21 off seven overs.

CD took 47 overs with their reply which allowed them a four-wicket win. Phillippa Gerrish scored 31, Nicola Thessman 23, Megan Graham 33 and Aimee Mason 24 not out.

Amanda Green took 2-15 from four overs and Frances King 2-28 off 10.
