ACB ACB to address swearing with Warne and Network Nine
Australian Cricket Board - 29 January 2001

The Australian Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed today that it would talk to Shane Warne and the Nine Network regarding the broadcast of comments made by Warne during last night's telecast of the Carlton Series match between Australia and Zimbabwe.

ACB Chief Executive, Malcolm Speed, said that the incident was unfortunate and should not have occurred.

"Players are aware of their responsibilities as role models and take these obligations very seriously. Nevertheless last night's comments no doubt caused offence to many members of the community. This should not have happened and is greatly regretted," said Mr Speed.

"I am conscious of the fact that in the emotion charged atmosphere of any sporting contest, spur of the moment comments which are later regretted can be made and I would place Shane's comments in this category.

"I will discuss both the nature of the comments with Shane and the fact that they were put to air with Channel 9 to seek to prevent a repeat of this situation."
