7th ODI, Carlton Series, West Indies v Zimbabwe, Statistical Highlights

  • It was the 1676th ODI in cricket history.

  • It was West Indies' 413th and Zimbabwe's 177th match.

  • It was the 14th match between these two sides. The record now reads: West Indies 10, Zimbabwe 4.

  • It was the 321st match in World Series Cup.

  • Umpires Darrell Hair and Peter Parker officiated for the 66th and 33rd time respectively.

  • The 133 run-partnership between Marlon Samuels and Brian Lara was the third highest for West Indies for the third wicket in all day-night matches after the 163 run-partnership between Lara and Keith Arthurton against Sri Lanka at Calcutta on 25-11-1993 and 154 run-partnership between Lara and Carl Hooper against Australia at Brisbane on 05-01-1997.

  • The partnership was also the highest for West Indies for any wicket in a day-night match against Zimbabwe beating the 92 run-partnership for fourth wicket between Desmond Haynes and Roland Holder at Hyderabad on 21-11-1993. Interestingly the previous record for West Indies for third wicket against Zimbabwe was paltry 34 run-partnership between Wavell Hinds and Lara at Bristol on 06-07-2000.

  • Andy Flower (50)when on 30 completed his 5000 runs in One-day internationals. He played his 165th match and 162nd innings. Flower became the first batsman from Zimbabwe and 27th batsman overall to do so. He now has 5020 runs to his credit.

  • Just for the record, Andy Flower is only the fourth player in the world to top the run-aggregate list for his country in both forms of the cricket, that is, Tests and ODIs. Flower has scored 3625 runs in 48 Tests. Others with this dual record are Graham Gooch for England (8900 runs in 118 Tests and 4290 runs in 125 ODIs), Martin Crowe for New Zealand (5444 runs in 77 Tests and 4704 runs in 143 ODIs) and Aravinda de Silva for Sri Lanka (5755 runs in 86 Tests and 8363 runs in 270 ODIs).

  • Mahendra Nagamoottoo (4-32) provided the 93rd instance of a West Indian bowler capturing four wickets in a match. Nagamoottoo also became the ninth spinner to take four wickets in a match for West Indies. Nagamoottoo's figures was the best by a West Indian spinner against Zimbabwe betterting the previous best of 3 for 19 by Jimmy Adams at Kingston on 01-04-2000. His performance was also the second best by any West Indian against Zimbabwe after Cameron Cuffy's 4 for 24 in the previous meeting between these two sides.

  • Samuels became the youngest West Indian to win a Man of the Match award. Ricardo Powell was the previous record holder. He had won his maiden MoM award in the final of Coca Cola Cup in Singapore in 1999-00 at the age of 20 years 266 days. Incidentally Pakistan's Shahid Afridi at 16 years 217 days remains the youngest player ever to win a MoM award.
