Ladbrokes tips Slater and McGrath to be top Ashes performers
Ladbrokes - 2 July 2001

With the start of the Ashes just a few days away, Ladbrokes have revealed their odds on top run scorers and leading bowlers for the long-awaited series. Michael Slater is tipped by Ladbrokes to be the series' top run-scorer, and is priced at 5-1. The top four are all Australians, with Ponting (6-1), Steve Waugh (6-1) and Mark Waugh (8-1). Openers Mike Atherton and Marcus Trescothick lead the English contingent, both priced at 10-1 to score most Ashes runs overall.

Of the more generously priced players, Aussie opener Matthew Hayden is 12-1, and Adam Gilchrist 16-1, perhaps due to lack of expected opportunities.

England make more of a challenge in the bowling stakes. England talisman Darren Gough (9-2) is only just behind favourite Glenn McGrath (9-4). Andy Caddick is less favoured, 8-1 to take the most wickets in the series, while returning all-rounder Craig White is a good outside bet at 25-1.
