Somerset 2nd XI tie with Hampshire 2nd XI.
Richard Walsh - 2 July 2001

Somerset Seconds tied their crucial match against Hampshire in the One Day Competition at North Perrott on Monday.

Batting first Somerset reached 255 for 7 in their 50 overs thanks to Graham Rose who scored 86, Matt Bulbeck, who made 41 and Keith Parsons with 36. For Hampshire James Hamblin ended with 3 for 31.

In reply Hampshire were all out for 255, with Ian Jones taking the last wicket to fall with the final ball of the innings. For the visitors Andrew Sexton made 86, whilst for Somerset Ian Jones ended with 3 for 47.

This result means that with both Somerset and Hampshire having lost one match each and now had a tied game a lot depends on their remaining fixtures.

Somerset take on Gloucestershire Seconds at Weston Super Mare on Tuesday and play their final match against Worcestershire at Keynsham next Monday.

With only one team from each of the four zonal groups going through to the semi finals if the two top teams end level on points the overall run rate will be the deciding factor.

Whatever the outcome of the overall competition cricket was certainly the winner at North Perrott where a large crowd turned out to watch the game.
