One test and a One-day will be played in Chittagong
Shahryar Khan - 3 July 2001

At last Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has given their consensus about hosting a single test in Chittagong Stadium against the coming Zimbabwe squad in November 2001. The President of BCB Mr. Saber Hossain Chowdhury announced this news, which would be a memorable event for the citizens of Chittagong. But BCB has also fixed a deadline date (October 30) for Chittagong Jela Krira Parisad (CJKP) to finish the necessary renovation work of the venue.

All test nations have different venues in various parts of their countries-except the baby test nation Bangladesh. The only stadium that can be compared to any overseas venue is the BNS ground where most of the international matches had been held from the very beginning. The stadiums those we have in Rajshahi, Chittagong or in Sylhet –all of them are lacking the qualities of an international venue. Only Chittagong is the better of the three, still it needs a lot of changes to host any foreign nation in their ground. The new plan has been taken for this renovation on Monday and under this plan, the CJKP was told to build a temporary dressing room above the VIP pavilion that is parallel to the wicket.

Mr. Salim Abedin, the director of CJKP has been given the responsibility to end up all required arrangements within the given dead line. A team of ICC will visit the venue to observe the progress in October. They will watch other three grounds too. The meeting also decided to reduce the size of BCB's Board of Directors from 31 members to 23.
