Dawn Holland qualify for Super League

Holland stormed into the Super League of the ICC Trophy Tournament after they thrashed Singapore by nine wickets to chalk up their fifth consecutive victory here Friday.

Sebastiaan Gokke claimed three of the first four wickets for 15 and Luuk van Troost snapped up three wickets from the other end conceding only seven runs as Singapore were bundled out for 47 in 26.2 overs.

Holland reeled off the required runs in less than one hour and lost only one wicket. In sharp contrast, Bermuda and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were involved in separate do-or-die encounters. Facing the prospects of elimination from the competition, both sides emerged victorious against Hong Kong and Fiji respectively to book their places in playoff contest set for Saturday.

Bermuda carved out a blazing 104-run victory at Malton ground. Batting first, they reached 206 for eight in 50 overs thanks to Clay Smith (91) and Janeiro Tucker (42). In reply, Hong Kong collapsed to 102.

Bermuda will now meet Namibia in a sudden-death match to determine which of them proceeds to the Super League phase.

The UAE set up clash with the unbeaten Uganda after beating Fiji, who were restricted to 194 for nine with Khuram Khan claiming four wickets for 25.

Opener Arshad Ali then struck an unbeaten 78, studded with two sixes and four fours, to ensure UAE's victory. Ahmed Nadeem also batted well, scoring an undefeated 49.

Ireland also booked their place in the next round with an emphatic nine-wicket victory over Papua New Guinea at Ross Lord ground.

Uganda warmed up for their crucial match against UAE with an emphatic seven-wicket win over Israel at Ajax ground.

Division One:

Group A: Singapore 47 in 26.2 overs (L. van Troost 3-7, S. Gokke 3-15) lost to Holland 48-1 in 13.5 overs by 9 wkts; Fiji 194-9 in 50 overs (N. Maxwell 54; Khuram Khan 4-25) lost to UAE 195-3 in 38.5 overs (Arshad Ali 78 not out, Ahmed Nadeem 49 not out) by 7 wkts.

Group B: Bermuda 206-9 in 50 overs (C. Smith 91; Mohammed Zubair 3-40) beat Hong Kong 102 in 40 overs (D. Leverock 4-15) by 104 runs; Papua New Guinea 146 in 45 overs (D. Heasley 5-25) lost to Ireland 149-1 in 32.3 overs (D Curry 95 not out) by 9 wkts.

Division Two:

Group B: East and Central Africa 218-9 in 50 overs (K. Cummings 51; V. Brumant 3-44) beat France 120 in 41.1 overs by 98 runs; Israel 153-9 in 50 overs (I. Massil 55 not out; F. Nsubuga 3-23) lost to Uganda 154-3 in 30.4 overs by 7 wkts.
