Special bets for Second Test
Matt Finnigan of Ladbrokes - 13 July 2001

The Ashes odds may be 1/25 Australia, 50/1 England and a drawn series at 7/1. But there are still plenty of betting opportunities for punters to get their teeth into. Based on the success of the First Test, Ladbrokes have released another batch of special bets on the Second Test.

Punters certainly had the best of the exchanges in the First Test with three Australian batsmen scoring centuries. If Mark Butcher had claimed a hat-trick ball and Australia had scored 600 runs, then yours truly might have been clearing his desk!

You can get 14/1 on three Australians scoring centuries in an innings and 7/1 they will score 600 runs or more in an innings. A good bet could be the 8/1 on offer for either side to have a partnership of 200 or more.

Darren Gough took his first five-wicket haul in an innings against Pakistan earlier this year and is priced at 4/1 to repeat the feat. Brett Lee is also priced at 4/1 to take five wickets in an innings. Another interesting bet is the 5/1 offered for either side to have a tenth-wicket partnership of 50 or more in the Test.

The 130th Open also starts on the same day with the defending champion Tiger Woods available at 6/4 for back-to-back wins. Check out Ladbrokes for host of other special bets on both the Test and the Open.
