Somerset keep faith with same one-day team at Canterbury
Richard Walsh - 23 July 2001

Somerset travel to Canterbury to take on Kent on Wednesday knowing that this match represents their last chance of a one-day trophy this season.

Somerset have named the same team that put paid to Glamorgan in the last round at Taunton, with the only change being that Jamie Grove is added as twelfth man.

The full team is: Trescothick, Bowler, Cox, Burns, Parsons, Turner, Blackwell, Dutch, Johnson, Caddick and Steffan Jones, with Grove as 12th man.

Fresh from their three day CricInfo Championship win against Lancashire at Old Trafford Somerset Coach Kevin Shine told me: "We're all very excited and looking forward to the game. We're in good form and have hit a good spell and Kent have had some good results. We also have the added bonus that we will have our two Test players back."

Somerset will have been helped by an extra day's rest on Sunday before making their final preparations for the match on Monday, and travelling to the south east on Tuesday.

Shine said: "This is a good draw for us, as we've tended to play better away from home this season. There is a really good feel about this match in the camp. We played Kent in the semi finals the year we went to Lord's, who knows this may just be "déja vu" and we will make it through to the final again this year."

One Kent player who will be doing his utmost to prevent a repeat of that semi final result will be former Somerset fast bowler Ben Trott who joined the "White Horse" county on a one year contract earlier this year after being released by the Cidermen in 1999.

When the two sides met at Taunton in the Norwich Union National League earlier on this year "Trotty" who was born and brought up at Wellington took two key wickets.

The tall fast bowler told me: "This is an exciting game for me. I guess that 'Tresco' will be playing to boost the Somerset side and I will be going all out to get his wicket. Whatever the outcome it will be good to see the lads again."

Tickets for the game are available in advance from the County Ground priced £10 for adults, £5 for senior citizens and juniors and will also be available on the gate at Canterbury.
