Ragama Cricket Club qualified to play the Premier League tournament next season when they beat Singha Sports Club in the first innings in the last promotion and relegation match at Galle on Sunday.

Sunday's game was crucial for both the sides as the winning side was certain to qualify for the Premier League tournament while the losing side faced demotion to the P. Sara Tournament.

This was the first time that Ragama Cricket Club have qualified for the Premier League. A small club with few facilities and no ground they were delighted with their promotion and revealed that they were already looking into bolstering their playing squad for the forthcoming season.

Singha played in the Premier Tournament last season, but were required to play in a Relegation tournament when they ended up the bottom four of the 18-team group. The two top teams of the P.Sara Tournament also participated in the relegation battle.

Ragama ended in the second place with 45.231 points while Chilaw Marians, the other side playing in Sara Tournament, had already qualified for the Premier League having won the relegation round robin.
