Dawn ACC keeps TV rights bid secret
26 July 2001

The bids for the television rights for this year's Asian Test Championship of cricket were opened here Wednesday but officials were not willing to say which company had won.

Zakir Hussain Syed, secretary of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) said that nothing had been finalised yet but did indicate that they would have to negotiate further with the bidders.

The companies that had pre-qualified are ESPN/ESS, Zee, TWI, WSG and Sony. The ACC's previous deal with TWI expired in June. It is believed that the bidding companies had not offered the kind of money the ACC was expecting and that is why further negotiations would be necessary.

The Asian Test Championship is to be played between the four Test playing nations of Asia - Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh with matches spread all over the sub-continent. Meanwhile, a final decision on the award of logo sponsorship deal was also not taken. Four companies have been identified for the logo sponsorship - soft drink giants Coca Cola, Pepsi, Hero and Sahara.
