Glamorgan skipper Steve James faces a month on the sidelines after breaking a bone in his left hand.

The injury took place yesterday at Taunton as James was struck on his glove by a short rising delivery from England paceman Andy Caddick during his side's innings defeat against Somerset.

Although he will not need an operation on his hand, James is unlikely to play again until Glamorgan`s final two Championship matches of the season, against Leicestershire and Surrey, during September.

From an injury point of view, 2001 has been a nightmare summer after James missed the opening two Championship matches of the season following a knee operation back in March.

"It has been immensely frustrating for me sitting on the sidelines," said James. "Nothing has gone right for me and I`m obviously upset to be missing our big relegation battle against Lancashire, starting on Wednesday at Colwyn Bay."

James though is confident that the Welsh county can soon move up the table. " A bit of a gap has appeared, but as various sides showed last year, it is nothing that a couple of wins can't change. Glamorgan have a good record at Colwyn Bay, so hopefully we can start by getting one against Lancashire."
