†INDIA v NEW ZEALAND 1999-2000
Wisden CricInfo staff - July 3, 2001

At Hyderabad, November 8. India won by 174 runs. Toss: India.

India hit back with a vengeance and a clutch of records. Their total of 376 for two was second at this level only to Sri Lanka's 398 for five against Kenya in the 1996 World Cup. Tendulkar and Dravid added 331 for the second wicket in 46 overs, an all-wicket record for any side in one-day internationals, beating Dravid's 318 with Ganguly in a World Cup game against Sri Lanka six months earlier. In that match Ganguly had made 183, the highest limited-overs score for India, but now Tendulkar surpassed him, batting throughout the innings for an unbeaten 186, then the fourth-highest score in any one-day international. It was his 24th century in such games, coming nine days after his 21st Test hundred, and he hit 20 fours and three sixes in 150 balls. Dravid partnered him with a run-a-ball 153, striking 15 fours and two sixes. New Zealand lost both openers in the first five overs and lasted only two-thirds of their batting allocation. But for Styris, last out for 43 in only his second international, they would not have reached 200.

Man of the Match: S. R. Tendulkar.
