Despite being a sound wicketkeeper to both quick and slow bowlers, Wade Seccombe's international and domestic opportunities have been severely limited by spending much of the 1990s as understudy to Ian Healy. Although he is the most technically correct of Australia's wicketkeepers and a capable late middle-order batsman, the allround ability of Adam Gilchrist has ended Seccombe's chances of making himself Australia's first-choice. His selection for the 2001 Ashes tour was unexpected. Greg Baum
