Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe 4th ODI 2000-01
Wisden CricInfo staff - July 4, 2001

At Sharjah, October 25 (day/night). Sri Lanka won by 123 runs.
Toss: Zimbabwe.
Sri Lanka swept into the final in ever more dominant form. The tone was set by Jayasuriya, whose renewed opening partnership with Kaluwitharana piled up 110 by the 16th over. Jayasuriya was eventually bowled for 87 in 66 balls, including 22 in one over from Bryan Strang; in all, he struck 12 fours and two sixes. His team-mates could not maintain the pace, though Vaas hit three sixes in five deliveries late on. Zimbabwe's ambitions did not outlive the opening salvos from Vaas and Zoysa, and they crashed to 46 for six in 18 overs. A half-century from Viljoen kept them afloat almost to the end of the innings, but their hopes of remaining in the competition now depended on overwhelming India next day.

Man of the Match: S. T. Jayasuriya.
