Australia v India 1999-2000
Wisden CricInfo staff - July 6, 2001

At Galle, August 23. Australia won by eight wickets (D/L method). Toss: India.

Duckworth/Lewis came into play for the second day running; India were interrupted at 65 for three, the match was cut to 38 overs a side and Australia were asked to make 159 to win. They did that with almost nine overs to spare after Gilchrist and Symonds had added 132 for the second wicket. Each contributed 68, with seven fours; Symonds, promoted to No. 3, outpaced his partner by scoring at a run a ball, and also hit a six. India's performance was disappointing. Their pace bowlers pitched too short, and earlier Tendulkar, suffering from a bad back, occupied 51 minutes in making 14. Only Jadeja and Robin Singh made much headway with the bat, and not enough to set a challenging target.

Man of the Match: A. Symonds.
