Everyone had part to play in win over Worcestershire
CricInfo - 3 June 2001

The Australians were delighted with their opening tour game at Worcester - and not just because they comprehensively beat the county side.

Just as important to the tourists was to make sure everyone played a part in the game as they prepare for the start of the NatWest Series against England and Pakistan.

It was humbling stuff for Worcestershire who had only once before lost by a bigger margin of runs than the 360-run rout inflicted on them by the Australians.

Vice-captain Adam Gilchrist said: "We are here for an enjoyable summer and a win is a win in any game of cricket.

"But I guess, first and foremost, it was great that all the guys have played - batsmen, bowlers and myself as 'keeper.

"It was really good to spend time out in the middle. Without doubt we get something out of a game like this.

"After our first day's training, we were all very stiff, and there's only so much time that you can put into work in the nets and running round the practice field.

"The real benefits come with time in the middle and that's exactly what we got in this game.

"The time for preparation is becoming less and less between Test Matches and one-day games and at the start of two tours.

"It's a fast moving game and it's a fast-moving itinerary these days, and you have got to acclimatise as quickly as possible."
