Injury worries mount in 2nd XI game
Richard Walsh - 8 June 2001

The second day of the match between Somerset Seconds and Northants at the County Ground was dominated by a fine innings of 168 by Toby Bailey, who helped his team to 345 for six before they declared 39 runs behind Somerset.

The pick of the home bowlers was Jamie Grove who ended with two for 85. Graham Rose is playing in the match but did not bowl, and there were further injury worries for Somerset when fast bowler Joe Tucker limped off midway through an over. He reappeared at the ground late in the day with his leg heavily bandaged.

Batting for a second time Somerset were soon in trouble and lost two wickets with the score on nine, and another on 27 before Michael Coles came in to join Oliver Bailey.

Opener Bailey, who plays cricket locally for Taunton Deane, ended the day unbeaten on 23 while Coles, who is in good shape with the bat this season, remained on 28, as Somerset closed on 66 for three, a lead of 105.
