* GCA secretary surrenders before judicial magistrate, gets bail

The Goa Cricket Association (GCA) secretary Vinod Phadke, wanted by police for his alleged involvement in the fake ticket scam during the fifth one-day international between India and Australia, on Thursday surrendered before the judicial magistrate of Margao and was granted bail. Phadke was released on a bail of Rs one lakh and two sureties of like amount on conditions includang that he make himself available to the investigating officer as and when required, DIG Karnal Singh said.

GCA president and former deputy chief minister Dayanand Narvekar, treasurer Ramnath Shankar Das and Phadke have been called for interrogation at Margao tomorrow as the police santed some clarifications and more details of some events, Singh said adding even though the custodial enquiries were not possible, the police would get to the truth.

Das was arrested immediately after the episode was reported and is now on bail. Narvekar was granted bail yesterday. But both Narvekar and Phadke did not cooperate with the police and from time to time filed bail applications before different courts, and finally got the bail from the Goa bench of the Mumbai High Court for a month. The judicial magistrate of Margao has now given bail to Narvekar and Phadke for two months or till the chargesheet is filed, whichever is earlier.

* ACA conduct workshop cum seminer

A workshop cum seminer was organised for coaches by the Assam Cricket Academy under the aegis of the Assam Cricket Association last week at the office of the Assam Football Association at the Nehru stadium in Guwahati. The workshop was opened by Sudhendu Paul, vice-president, ACA and the welcome address was given by Nandan Bezbaruah, secretary, ACA.

Totally, 54 coaches from different districts of Assam attended the workshop, displaying keen interest. Apart from theoretical lectures, practical demonstrations, technical aspects of cricket coaching and audio-vidio clippings on coaching were presented for the benefit of the coaches. Another interesting topic was that on sports injuries. Dr. Dipankar Bhattacherjee spoke in detail about how a player could be prevented from possible injuries.

The workshop was conducted by head coach of the proposed Assam Cricket Academy, Kamal Das and associates Manoj Bhagawati and Mukut Das.
