Donald seeks return to English county cricket
CricInfo - 11 June 2001

Allan Donald, the South African fast bowler, has revealed that he would like to play another season of county cricket in 2002.

"I'm thinking of giving county cricket one more shot for another year," Donald said. "I spoke to Bob Woolmer (Warwickshire director of coaching) and he is aware of what I'm thinking."

It had been thought that Donald had played his final game in England after the 2000 season, as he decided to concentrate on international cricket and, in particular, the 2003 World Cup in South Africa. But Donald, who has a home in Birmingham and whose wife comes from the area, has clearly had something of a rethink, perhaps due to his retirement from Test cricket.

"I know that Warwickshire want Shaun Pollock to come back next year and it all depends on whether the South African board are prepared to release him. If they aren't then I'd like to give it another shot with Warwickshire and if that happened it would be fantastic.

But Donald admitted that he could be lured to another county if Warwickshire plump for Pollock.

"I might have to look at playing for another county which would be hard after the career that I have had with Warwickshire," he admitted.
