ECB look into adapting Cyclops technology to solve no-ball problems
CricInfo - 11 June 2001

The England and Wales Cricket Board are to look into the adoption of a 'Cyclops' device to help eliminate no-ball errors.

According to cricket operations manager for the ECB, Alan Fordham, the technology would work in a similar way to that used at the Wimbledon tennis championships. The ECB have contacted the manufacturers of Cyclops to enquire about the possibility of it being adapted for use in cricket.

"We'll look at the idea from a practical and budgetary point of view, and see where we stand," Fordham told the Daily Express. "We're at stage one at the moment and there are several more steps to clear before anything becomes reality."

Barrie Leadbeater, chairman of the Umpires' Association, lent his support to the idea in principle.

"We're not against the introduction of new technology. It might help with bowlers whose follow-through obscures the umpires' view," he said.
