Reekers making big impact in the Netherlands
Lynn McConnell - 21 June 2001

Canterbury's Darren Reekers is enjoying a hot run of form in the Netherlands national cricket league.

He is the first batsman to have posted 500 runs in the competition and is sitting on 571 runs scored at an average of 63.44. He has hit three centuries, the last at the weekend being his highest of 121 not out.

He's also giving good value to his Quick Haag team with his bowling, having taken 14 wickets at an average of 18.07.

His Canterbury captain Gary Stead is also among the runs having scored 474 runs at an average of 52.66 for his club Rood and Wit. Stead has also been productive with the ball in hand having taken eight wickets for 162 runs, an average of 20.25.

Otago, and former Canterbury, batsman Craig Cumming has also been scoring well, having hit 393 runs at an average of 78.6 for his side VRA. Cumming has also continued to be a dab hand with the ball, a continuation of his form in the New Zealand summer, and has taken six wickets for an average of 25.5.

Cumming's team-mate in the VRA team, Chris Pringle, is one of the leading wicket-takers in the competition having 16 wickets at 13.06. Another member of the team is former Test batsman Shane Thomson who has scored 164 runs at an average of 32.8.

However, the most successful bowler to date is Auckland bowler Richard Morgan, who plays for the HCC club. He's taken 18 wickets at an average of 16.66. His team-mate, the former Auckland and Northern Districts batsman Alex O'Dowd has 270 runs at an average of 30.

The other New Zealander playing in the league is Central Districts batsman Gavin McRae who plays for Hermes PVS. To date he has struggled for runs and his 127 runs have come at an average of 14.11.
