New Zealand's cricket groundsmen will have the chance to hear how the curator of the WACA ground in Perth has earned the reputation for producing the best pitches in the world.

Turf managers across a variety of sports will be meeting in Rotorua next week to compare notes and ideas on best turf presentation across all sports.

Perth curator Richard Winter is one of several speakers at the conference.

Specific issues to cricket at the conference include discussion of the future of portable pitches, minimising the effects of dew on grounds for night sport and achieving surface stability for fair and effective competition.

But not only cricket grounds will be on the menu. There will also be discussion on golf courses, race tracks, bowling clubs, schools, stadia and council sportsgrounds.

Steve Isaac of the Sports Turf Research Institute in Britain will speak on issues as diverse as winning gold medals in bowls at next year's Commonwealth Games in Manchester, growing grass in the shade, biocontrol in sports turf and research for golf.

The manager of the high profile Australian Parliament Grounds in Canberra, John Lloyd will speak to the conference on customer focused servicing of the industry.
